Susquehannock High School Students Study Rockets

SHS junior Colin Comber and freshman Stephan Smith recently studied rockets in their technology education class.  For five days, they built their own rockets in class and studied rocket history during their virtual instruction days.  Along with their teacher, Mr. Konzelmann, Colin and Stephan prepared and launched their rockets using various size engines to calculate how high their rockets would fly.  "The students gained an understanding of the history of rocketry and rocket technology," said Konzlemann.

The students needed keen attention to detail to build the rockets and ensure that all the parts fit together perfectly for the rocket to perform properly from launch to recovery.  Strict safety measures were followed during launch.  "We took basic materials and actually made it amount to a fun 'outside-the-classroom' activity, using the knowledge we gained about rockets from class,” said Comber.
